Circular economy at The Clothes Horse
A few years ago I went to a very cool venue for the day to listen to an interesting man talk about circular economy.
It was such an interesting day and I learnt a lot. I was also pleased to understand that at The Clothes Horse this is what we do. We use the circular economy.
Picture this:
A lovely lady dropping off their children’s clothes. She is a bit sad as she loved her child wearing these clothes, they are full of wonderful memories but the clothes are now too small. Sadly no amount of trying to get the little boy to fit in to the flannel checkered shirt or cords is going to work. So she brings them to us along with some other lovely items.
The Clothes Horse team hangs these up. The lady whom had dropped these off comes in with her friend a week later and sees these, the clothes she had donated hanging up with someone looking at them. She becomes teary seeing them but delighted to see them about to be taken, new memories added to her own.
She starts up a conversation with the lady looking at her sons checked shirt and a friendship starts.
The lady takes the checkered shirt and some other items. The lovely lady whom dropped these off feels happy knowing they are going to be worn again. She spots some checkered shirts that will fit her son now and some wellies and takes them knowing she will bring them back when he grows out of them to give to someone else, perhaps the same lady will pick them up. Adding more memories to the ones she is going to start making with her son as soon as she takes these items home.
This is the circle that we draw time and again at The Clothes Horse.
Your clothes that had such fond memories are chosen worn with another family to make more memories then donated again to be chosen again and again and again.
