Slow Fashion

Slow Fashion

The Clothes Horse is all about taking it slow. Slow fashion.

Fast fashion become a thing a few years ago. This is when clothes are made super quickly to keep up with fashion trends. The garments made are created speedily for many brands at low prices. Since these items are mass produced and quickly they are not made to last. When they fall apart after little wear sadly they are destined for landfill. A daunting fact is that it is estimated in the UK 10,000 items of clothing goes to landfill every 5 minutes. Eek.

At The Clothes Horse we are embracing the slow approach. We are slowing down the rush of buying new by lengthening the life of clothes already out there. By donating your quality clothes to us we can pro long its life.

We set out clothes in our shop and people can come and look through our rails and take what they need for their children. We are stacked at the moment with summer clothes, wellies, swimmers, shorts, hats from newborn to teens. We also have a section for adults including a maternity section.

We only put out good quality clothing as we know how important your little ones are and how they only deserve the best. Anything that we receive that does not hit the mark we recycle turning them into loft insulation and so on.

By shopping in this way we are slowing down the need to buy new. We are also using clothes that are already in circulation eliminating the need to consider fast fashion.

Slow fashion is so rewarding. You are helping the environment, helping keep clothes in circulation as well as knowing you are choosing clothes that are better quality as they are standing the test of time. You are also saving pennies which is always a win in my opinion.

We have many mums and dads who come to us and smile when they see clothes they have donated hanging on the rails ready to go to a new home. Sometimes it can be emotional in a good way seeing their last child’s clothes going to a new a home but what a lovely thing to do.

We often have clothes that come to us that are years old - think brands ladybird, apple, mothercare, tammygirl do you remember any of these? As well as some home sewn items but they are in such good condition.

I feel that clothes can tell a story and feel privileged at The Clothes Horse that we can be part of their story. For example a young excited mum or dad bought an outfit for their baby, they wore it until it no longer fitted, perhaps they learnt to crawl or walk in it, maybe they spoke their first word wearing it. Instead of that being the end of the journey they passed it on to another excited parent for their baby to wear and so the journey keeps on going.
