De cluttering
I am slowly starting to de clutter the house. I like to do a de clutter before December and get some much needed space back into our house. I find that a good de clutter is good for my mind. Once I have done it I feel a weight lift from my shoulders again which is nice. Anyone else feel like that?
I try and do the de clutter room by room. At the moment I am decluttering our bedroom. I am not allowed to touch my husbands stuff so I just work on my own stuff. I have already sorted a pile of clothes that I have put up for sell. Other clothes that are old, tired and not really worth repairing I have put for recycling.
Although I did it not too long ago I need to hit my wardrobe again and see if there is anything that I haven’t worn since the last de clutter and whether I think it is worth keeping or letting go. Before I have got too excited and got rid of some clothes that I later regretted as I had to re buy the same sort of items I got rid of so I always like to be completely sure before these are taken away or sold, never to be seen again.
Not only do I streamline on clothes but any other bits that I no longer need or are not fit for purpose.
Next I will hit the boys rooms. This is a longer process. The clothes are not too tricky, once they have grown out of the sizes off they go to The Clothes Horse if there is good life still in them or they get recycled.
Then on to the toys, eek. I try and get this done with the boys not around and put in a pile then I will reluctantly ask them if they are happy for the toys selected to go as they seem not to play with them. Half of them go back into the bedroom but at least it is a start. I used to do it stealthily but I got caught out a few times, once on the way to the charity shop to offload them and this didn’t go down too well and toys went back in the bedroom and the other times they found them in the loft not very impressed that they were soon to go to the charity shop.
So to avoid mum guilt I do get the boys involved.
After these rooms I do the kitchen and living room which isn’t too hard and my book collection is getting smaller.
Once the de cluttering has taken place I consciously do not fill spaces up with stuff again and our home feels bigger.
I think I am just over lots of stuff. I also just want to have a house with functional things or things that I really like.
I am not a natural housekeeper. I would rather be outside rambling about so I keep housecleaning to a minimal. So the less I need to dust and clean the better in my book. Same with doing the laundry, the less I have to wash, hang out, fold, iron then the better.
At The Clothes Horse we are grateful for clothes donated to us. We like to make sure that we have a good selection of clothes available for all ages and these donations help us to have that. We are also here for the environment the stats for clothes ending up in landfill is crazy and we want to do all we can to eliminate that. By prolonging the life of clothing we are making a difference and supporting slow fashion instead of fast fashion which is a major cause of damaging the environment.
We take pride in the clothes that we stock and make sure that the clothes we offer are in good condition and high quality. Any clothes that we receive that does not hit that mark are recycled.
We love seeing clothes that have been taken from us and then come back to us again after use ready to go out again. This is a circular system which we are happy to be a part of. The longer clothes are in circulation the better.
