Lots of birthdays…

October is always an interesting month for my family. There are six of us in our family and October marks the beginning of five birthdays between now and February.

I love that our birthdays in our family has landed this way and makes it a fun few months. It also means five take aways as with our family birthday tradition we can get a take away or restaurant dinner for our birthday. We usually end up with take aways as the dark nights and winter evenings makes us want to stay cosy at home.

Take aways make me excited as it is one less meal to cook and secretly I take it as a celebration for me celebrating that this child whose birthday it is is mine.

The boys usually want one take away and I or my husband and I get another since I am a vegetarian, dairy and gluten free too.

In order to get these birthdays running smoothly I try and pre plan as much as I can and get the up and coming birthday boy to give me his birthday list as soon as he can in the month of his birthday so that I can get ready.

I am not always great at planning though, I don’t make the birthday cake the night before. I usually remember the cake in the afternoon and then do a made dash when birthday boy is occupied to make it. Thankfully now my other sons usually like to decorate the cake, one less job for me as I am not great at cake decorating.

Planning in advance for me in these situations is the way to go so that I don’t pile on any stress that I do not need to. Another thing I like to try and plan is clothes. With my boys ever growing I like to make sure that they have enough clothing to last them a season or two. As we are now into Autumn I will start checking the boys clothes and do a purge. (Check out this blog here where I talk more about purging clothes). What clothes they no longer need, any clothes that need repairing (thanks mum!) As well as any winter clothes the boys may need this season.
