Embracing the autumn
Once I have got over the sorrow of summer ending I am willing to embrace the autumn. I enjoy seeing the leaves fall and become crispy on the ground. I love seeing my boys run through the crunchy leaves and climb trees.
I also feel that autumn is a time to prepare for the winter. To get prepared with all the things that we will need to get us through the cold season. I like to try and stock up the food cupboards with jams and honey as well as prepare homemade cough mixtures and freeze berries.
I like to get the home ready with blankets, hot water bottles and candles. I also like to make sure that we have warm clothes that fit us. Clothes that will keep us warm. Jumpers, coats, thick socks, onesies, hoodies, hats, gloves and wellies.
One way I do this is to put away all of our summer hats and coats then bring out the winter hats and make sure that they are all fit for purpose and fit us too. I then look through our clothes and do the same, check what fits and what needs to be taken to The Clothes Horse as well as to see if there are any gaps and what items of clothing I need to get.
It feels like some sort of yearly ritual to put away the summer clothes and welcome back the winter clothes. Say hello to old winter friends like my vintage winter wool coat and my favourite boots.
How do you prepare for the seasons? How do you prepare for winter?
At The Clothes Horse we are slowly putting out our warmer clothes so that people can get prepared and stock up what they need. If you haven’t come to see us yet you can find more info here.
